Coille Bheag is a six-acre family croft on the shores of Loch Ewe in the western Highlands of Scotland. It's part of the scattered crofting village of Inverasdale, near Poolewe and Gairloch in the Wester Ross region. Ideally placed for walking, fishing, boating, watching wildlife or just relaxing, it has spectacular views of the mountains of Wester Ross, including the Great Wilderness and Torridon ranges. It's only a few minutes' drive away from the world-famous Inverewe Gardens.as well as many wonderful sandy beaches.
When you come and stay at Coille Bheag, you can choose accommodation at either of two self-catering properties - The Cottage and The Lodge - each with its own individual character. Both are completely self-contained detached cottages offering complete privacy, and the croft offers plenty of off-road car parking and private access to the loch shore.
You'll meet our family pets.... sister and brother cat team Rag and Tag,
and Sirius the friendly Newfoundland. |
Coille Bheag offers two slightly different kinds of accommodation - the traditional homespun charm of The Cottage and the more modern, eco-friendly Scandinavian-style luxury of The Lodge. Both properties enjoy the same splendid view of the loch and the mountains and you can enjoy our acre of woodland and our wildflower meadow from the enclosed garden area, or wander as you please on the croft or by the loch shore.
Coille Bheag also grows its own organic fruit and vegetables, all produced without chemicals and which you can buy direct from us in season. We have several open growing areas plus a polytunnel, and we also supply several of the local restaurants and hotels.
There are usually also eggs from our flock of free-range hens. Don't worry if they come and sit on your windowsills! |
Enjoy the wealth of local walks above Loch Ewe. You may not see another soul all day!
Our croft is a family business - run by husband-and-wife Alasdair Wright and Clare O'Brien with the help of their sons Callum (15) and Ruairdhri (13). We live and work from our own home on the croft - it's some distance from the Cottage and the Lodge, but we're always there if you need us
The Cottage is a 150-year-old traditional crofter's cottage, or "croft house", which has been carefully refurbished whilst retaining its rustic local character. The 3-bedroom cottage has electric heating, an open fire, a cosy parlour, a newly refurbished kitchen/dining room, a conservatory and can accommodate up to six people plus baby. Ideal for family holidays, the cottage welcomes children and well-trained pets. Find out more about The Cottage here. The Lodge is a brand new luxury 2-bedroomed house with energy-efficient central heating, wooden floors and vast picture windows overlooking the loch and mountains, as well as integrated living area and upper mezzanine. Ideal for a romantic getaway or for small families, it sleeps up to four (plus an extra person on a folding bed if you like!) but sorry - no pets. Find out more about The Lodge here. |
