What We Did On Our Holidays

Some comments taken from our visitors' books for The Cottage and The Lodge at Coille Bheag

THE COTTAGE

"We had a great week of really changeable classic west coast weather, moody skies, rainbows and even some sun! Lovely to see the autumn colours and to hear the stags roaring in the glens. ..it was lovely to come "home" each day to a lovely cottage, to enjoy the fantastic view and relax in front of the fire. Lovely comfy bed, too." - Katie & Calvin, Isle of Man (October 2007)

"Really enjoyed the superb views and the wildlife. Visited the fantastic beaches at Mellon Udrigle and Gruinard Bay - deserted at this time of year. Enjoyed getting up and going to watch the otters and bird life along the side of the loch before breakfast, and sitting in the conservatory watching the sky change - particularly during the gale on Thursday! Hope to be back again before too long". - Wendy & Helen, Yorkshire (November 2007)

"Had fab week, weather unbelievable (in a good way!) throughout. ...highlights included the trip across the pass to Applecross and lunch at Applecross Inn, coffee and cake on multiple occasions at Bridge Cottage Cafe in Poolewe...Cottage very comfortable and great views. Thanks for the lovely welcome, hope to be back soon! " -Reg & Katherine, Cheshire (May 2008)

"We were blessed with almost perfect weather...dogs loved Firemore Beach and the walk to the cliffs at Cove...the salad leaves are delicious and a delightful mix...moving out of the conservatory from long lazy breakfasts is amazingly hard. We hope to return for another fix of peace, beauty, grandeur and hospitality. " -Doug & Hilary, Birmingham (May 2008)

"Occasional squalls, but the clouds and dappled sunshine on the mountains added a note of drama to the already stunning view. Nothing could have prepared me for the raw, unspoiled beauty. We enjoyed a day of unbroken sunshine on the beach at Gruinard Bay which set us up for the week. " - John Crane, Sheffield (June 2008)

"These timeless hills and the ever-changing weather are the ingredients for the endlessly changing panorama. Both the light and the senese of time are quite different in this part of the world. We have enjoyed a fantastic family holiday week together." - Wilosn family, Edinburgh, Dundee & cork (July 2008)

"The cottage is excellent - the views across the loch are mesmerising/hypnotic. No. 1 son satisfied his pyromaniac tendencies with fires in the stove. We have really enjoyed this week - it has been brilliant. Thank goodness for Gore-Tex and wellies! " - Duncan family, Glasgow (July 2008)

"First time here in the Highlands. What a beautiful place. We fell in love with the breathtaking scenery, kind hospitality and superb beaches...we received a warm welcome everywhere we went and our dog Duke was in his element. Will definitely recommend this hidden gem to all our friends. It's well the visit." -Sue & Ben & Duke the dog, London (August 2008)

"Es war ein wunderschone Zeit, atemberaubende Landschaft und Natur. Da es das erste Mal fur uns in Schottland war, konnen wir uns glucklich schatzen in diesem Schonen Cottage so freundlich willkommen geheissen worden zu sein." -Judith, Matthias, Joshua & Moshe, Germany (October 2008)

Great place to get away from the humdrum of work and relax. Cosy croft, lovely owners & breathtaking scenery. We had a fab time." -Matt, Yas & Malcolm, Sheffield, January 2009)

THE LODGE

"What a great time we have had! It took us a couple of days to get used to the silence, we crept around trying not to spoil it! Only the hooded crows and the chickens seemed to make a sound. There are loads of beautiful places to explore...the Lodge was so cosy and warm, with everything you could possibly need. "- Steve & Liz, Warwickshire (March 2008)

"Perfect location. Perfect cabin. Perfect weather. Perfect company. " - Martin & Kate, Tayport (May 2008)

"We have enjoyed ourselves so much - of all the places we have stayed in Wester Ross and Sutherland, this has been the best by miles! Waking up to the loch is perfect. the food has also been fabulous, both eating in - which we did most of the time thanks to the great salad and eggs - and eating out. Managed long hill walks four out of the six days...all in all, we're reluctant to leave. Thank you so much for the lovely house, food and welcome, Clare and Alasdair. " - Katy & Des, Glasgow (June 2008)

"We have really enjoyed our time spent in and around the Lodge. Very relaxing. Clare's salad leaves and french beans were great. The market in Poolewe village hall on Tuesdays from 10am gives you the chance to buy locally-produced crafts and foods including home baking, jams, veg and smoked fish. " - Pauline, Davy, Adam & Rachel, Edinburgh (July 2008)

"What an amazing start to the year - clear blue skies and sunshine every single day! The special winter light has made the mountains even more stunning than usual. We have really enjoyed the cosiness, space and light of the Lodge - it's so well-designed. Thank you for providing such a great base for the holiday. " - Elaine, Mark, Finn & Rosa, Edinburgh (January 2009)

"One magical and noteworthy occasion was when we walked on the shingle at the cottage beach. An otter swam by, dived, came up with a crab and brought it ashore close by to eat its meal! Lots of excellent photos before it went back into the water. Wow! " - Roger & Sheila, Cambridge (May 2009)

"Whatever the weather, coming back to this comfortable house, with its superb views over grass, loch and hillside aad distant peaks is always a pleasure...the shingle beach is full of trophies for stone collectors. Haven't eaten out much as cooking fish here has been an important part of the stay! "- Inge & Andrew, Frankfurt, Germany (July 2009)

"The Lodge has been very comfortable, even in high winds and heavy rain it's been warm and cosy, without any need for heating to be on." - Lil & Chris, Slapton, Buckinghamshire (September 2009)

"So light, comfortable and the views from the windows are fantastic - beautiful sunrises and sunsets. Have been coming to this area for many years and now we have discoveredTthe Lodge I'm sure we will be back."" - Ian & Heather, Edinburgh (October 2009)

" We found somewhere which provided more than we could have hoped for. The Lodge itself is perfect; stunning scenery to wake up to each morning, seclusion, comfort, peaceful surroundings and the joys of a night sky free of light pollution - the full moon was so bright we could still make out the profile of the mountains across the loch!" " - Mark & Liz Dymond, Fife (November 2009)
